It’s no secret that Mobile devices have become a part of every day life. People of all ages are now using smart phones on a daily basis. But what can this mean for your nonprofit?

Mobile Giving, the act of donating to an organization through a mobile device, is a great way to bring in new patrons and increase donations. Mobile Giving can be done one of two ways.

The first, text messaging, prompts users to text a specific keyword to a designated number. For example, “Text give to 55555 to make a donation today!”. The second cues the user via call to action to scan a QR code.

After completing one of the two methods, the user is sent a link that takes him or her to a mobile-optimized website. Here, the donor will enter their credit card information to make a one-time donation or an on-going pledge, all right from their mobile device. The funds then get deposited directly into the nonprofit’s account.

Services such as this are great because of their user-friendliness. Anyone that can operate a cell phone (a vast majority) can use Mobile Giving. Donors are not required to create any kind of account, there is no limitation on donation amount, and the set-up is quick and affordable.

Mobile Giving can be easily utilized at conventions, at charity dinners, at seminars, in advertisements and so much more. And nonprofits can get creative with tools like this as well by incorporating the technology into ticket sales, event invitations, event RSVPs, mobile ballots for voting, and so much more.

What are your thoughts on Mobile Giving? Is it something you would like to utilize for your nonprofit? Let us know in the comments.
